I am often asked whether diet pills or slimming pills really work. The answer is a qualified yes. Of course diet pills really do work. However, they only work in conjunction with changes in lifestyle. The changes in lifestyle might relate to changes in diet, changes in physical exercise or changes in the use of stress management techniques.
Now the question becomes, which diet pill is the most effective? This is also a tough question to answer, as there are different categories of diet pills which will affect different people in different ways. It is important to consult with your doctor to figure out the best approach in your dieting efforts, since choosing a slimming pill that suits your habits and physical condition is as important as the diet pill itself. Choosing between carbohydrate blockers, fat blockers, appetite blockers, or metabolism boosters is a decision best made with the help of your doctor and/or a nutrition expert.
You have probably seen the claims of ‘all natural diet pills’ and wondered whether they were any more effective or better for your health than synthetic diet pills. Although there are some proven safe and effective synthetic diet pills available, I tend to believe that natural substances used for their intended purpose are inherently better for you. This is not to say that every ‘all natural’ diet pill is necessarily effective – you need to do the research on the safety and effectiveness studies, as well as make sure that you choose a natural diet pill that actually contains the necessary quantity and balance of effective weight loss ingredients.
An all natural diet pill in the appetite suppressant category is hoodia gordonii. Hoodia Gordonii is an effective appetite suppressant which has been proven safe and is a popular slimming pill choice for good reason. However, as with any product in a highly competitive market, you still need to be careful that what you are buying is actually what it claims to be. The FDA released reports in the 1990s which revealed that many hoodia products in fact did not contain the active appetite suppressant ingredient. There are tricks that manufacturers and advertisers use to trick you into buying a product which may not be what you expect it to be, so before buying any product make sure you are buying from a reputable source.
Another natural diet pill, or perhaps better classified as a diet supplement, is Conjugated Linoleic Acid, or CLA for short. This supplement has been extensively studied, and although opinions vary, there are successful studies reported where using CLA as a diet supplement along with a healthy diet and exercise regime, results in additional weight loss as compared to study groups who did not consume CLA as part of their diet attempts.
So the answer to the diet pill question is not really that much of a mystery. Yes, they will help you lose weight. But you need to accept the fact that a diet pill alone will not magically rid you of extra weight and unwanted fat. If you are looking for a boost in your dieting attempts, then a diet pill which is compatible with your eating habits and current physical condition is a good way to encourage maximum weight loss. Remember that your final goal with any weight loss program really should be better health, so getting there with a combination of healthy eating, exercise, and a diet pill to maximize weight loss is probably your best bet to lose weight.
