There are a lot of made up facts regarding weight loss which have gained huge popularity among us all. Most of us in our desperate search for the best Washington, DC personal trainer get impressed by those who profess to be experienced and masters of fitness. But all that ends up happening is we get cheated out of our money.
Myth #1: Aerobics is the ideal solution to all weight issues.
Busted: USDA had recommended 60 to 90 minute aerobic exercise to lose fat in the year 2005. But the results later showed that the people who had done rigorous exercise for not less than 60 minutes per day for 6 days a week ended up losing only 6.5 lbs of body fat in a year.
Although aerobic workouts are helpful for endurance training they are not very efficient in losing body weight. Interval training on the other hand heightens you metabolic rate even after 12 to 36 hours of regular workouts.
Myth #2: Crunches will give me washboard abs
Busted: Experienced Washington, DC personal trainers clarify that we all are gifted with naturally great abs but cant see them because they are under the flabby layers of fat. The only way to see for yourself would be to burn all that fat away. There are much better ways to do that than doing an isolation exercise like crunches.
When getting rid of fat, you would want to recruit more muscle units at one time to consume a greater amount of energy. An isolation exercise will only target a few muscles, and the only real thing you are doing is straining your neck and upper back (especially if you’re not doing the exercise right!).
You should give squats a try. This exercise involves all the muscles located in upper and lower body. And since you are involving more muscles, you end up burning fat more effectively. You will be very happy with the results, once you’ve gotten rid of all the excess fat.
Myth #3: By increasing reps, light weights will help in developing well toned muscles.
Busted: Men and women can only define their muscles by lifting heavy weights. Light weights will not have any effect even if you do a million reps. So, you should just sit back, relax and watch football on TV, if you’re planning on using a 1 lb dumbbell.
Myth #4: Eat less and workout more.
Busted: Exercise more and eat a lot of food that is good for you. It can be quite discouraging with people all around you going on diets, losing weight and then putting back all the weight they lost. But this happens because they choose to go on yo-yo diets, which is one of the worst ways to lose weight, because they lose weight as long as they avoid food and balloon up again when they start eating. Starvation only increases your appetite and makes you crave more food and that builds to a point when you finally lose self control.
Eat healthy food and do a lot of exercise. Cultivating healthy food habits by eating fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts and beans will be not only help you lose weight now, but will be good for you in the long run as well.
